A Roman frontier fort overlooking the Danube in Dobrogea
2–3 hours
April–October
Why go
Capidava occupies a strategic position on the right bank of the Danube and preserves a fortress with both military and commercial functions. The visitor circuit includes defensive walls, towers, the main gate, military headquarters, an economic quarter, a basilica, and harbour installations beside the river. Successive occupation phases help explain the Roman frontier and the transformation of Dobrogea in Late Antiquity. The exposed site can be hot and windy, while its distance from major towns requires route planning. Confirm current visiting arrangements with MINAC before travelling.
