Why go

Polovragi Cave lies in the Căpățânii Mountains beside the Olteț River, close to the gorge entrance and Polovragi Monastery. Its arranged visitor route presents karst formations, deposits, and galleries associated in local tradition with the legend of Zamolxe. The cave maintains a temperature of about 8–9°C, so an extra layer is needed even on warm days. A visit can be combined with Olteț Gorge, but cave access must follow the schedule and conditions announced by the administrator. Check current official information before travelling.
